The Andreas van Zoelen collection
I was very happy to finally find a good swanee slide saxophone in London. I was even more thrilled when I found the method book that came with it. I was in shock when I found out on the back page (seen below) that they actually made more instruments, because for me, that meant I also had to find those for my collection. Fortunately, that also worked out!
German magazine ‘Rohrblatt’ published one of my articles, in which I also talk about the Swanee instruments. You can read it here.
In 2013 I cooperated with the University College of Engineering in Venlo, to see if the interior of these slide saxophone could be reproduced, and more importantly modernized. This proved not only to be extremly difficult, but as it turns out, the inside of these instruments where extremely well thought through and skilfully crafted! Unfortunately, they tend to leak, so it is important to keep them greased very well before playing

I’ve spent years collecting, researching, and preserving saxophones, each with its own unique story. My goal with this website is to make this knowledge publicly available to saxophone lovers and researchers alike. I hope you find as much joy in this collection as I have in creating it.
