Karl Hammerschmidt und Söhne

Klingson

The Hammerschmidt family company was founded in 1873 by Martin Hammerschmidt (February 26, 1846 – February 14, 1920) in Watzkenreuth near Schönbach in Egerland, now in the Czech Republic. The majority of wind instrument manufacturers active in Germany and Austria today were previously based in West Bohemia.

Notes on this instrument

This special instrument was gifted to me by Wil Senden, who was my publisher for the compositions I wrote for wind orchestra.

According to the Hammerschmidt family, this instrument was among the first ones to be constructed, when they started making saxophones in 1952. The company is still in existence, building clarinets. Sadly, nothing is left nowadays from the saxophone manufacturing plant they had.
