The Andreas van Zoelen collection
The Hanken company, based in Rotterdam, was founded in 1837. In 1872 Gerhard Johann Friedrich Hanken, see picture, joins the family company. Several sources, including the instruments themselves, indicate that the saxophones they produced were not of great quality. The plant was destroyed in 1940.

I’ve spent years collecting, researching, and preserving saxophones, each with its own unique story. My goal with this website is to make this knowledge publicly available to saxophone lovers and researchers alike. I hope you find as much joy in this collection as I have in creating it.
