The Andreas van Zoelen collection
I bought this instrument in the early 2000s as a project; I wanted to be a repairman, and needed an instrument to practise on, so I figured!
It was a plan I had, even when I was in high school. In the 90s, I even went to ask Ad Peeters (the Soundking company would ring a bell for my generation of Tilburg natives) if he would take apprentices, which he didn’t. Peeters himself had been a worker at the Kessels plant (see elswhere on this website).
In the end I’m quite happy about the way things turned out; that I am playing the saxophones rather then repairing them. And apart from being eternally greatful for the work of skilled masters like Nico Bodewes in Amsterdam, so I can play the instruments the way I want to, I can still really enjoy the artistry that goes into the mechanical aspects of the saxophone.
If there is a young person out there who is aspiring to be a repairman one day, write me. I would be happy to donate this instrument to someone that can give it life again, and can use it to further themselves in the art of saxophone repair. Maybe this saxophone can ignite a spark somewhere.

I’ve spent years collecting, researching, and preserving saxophones, each with its own unique story. My goal with this website is to make this knowledge publicly available to saxophone lovers and researchers alike. I hope you find as much joy in this collection as I have in creating it.
