The Andreas van Zoelen collection
During my time as an endorsed artist for Keilwerth in Germany (I still play the Keilwerth SX 90 II bass saxophone with great pleasure!), I visited the plant, then based in Nauheim, frequently, for meetings, and adjustments/maintenance to my instrument.
I always enjoyed looking around the factory tremendously. I have great memories of my first visit there, when I was shown around by Gerhard Keilwerth, grandson of the company’s founder, Julius Keilwerth. (Interestingly, there is a connection between this brand and Schenkelaars, see elsewhere in my collection!).
During those visits, they would let me look through the bins where they disposed of (parts of) instruments that didn’t pass quality control. This is one of those finds. Also, see the Keilwerth alto in pieces for another example.
